Located at 39º 05´N and 28º 05´W, Graciosa Island lies 20 NM North of São Jorge and 32 NM Northwest of Terceira.
Occupying 62 km2, 12,5 km long and 8,5 km wide, and having a population of 5 189 inhabitants, the landscape of Graciosa is of great beauty, combining the green pastures with white isolated houses and villages. This island is attractive to the visitors for its landscape of flat land, rounded mountains covered with trees, vineyards between wall of black stone, fields and the permanent presence of the sea. It has flattened and fertile fields that produce vegetables, fruit and wine and where it raises cattle, being today the main source of wealth of the island. It is known as the White Island.
It is the least mountainous of the Azores, reaching at his highest point - pico Timão - a altitude of only 388 meters, and she has for some time been known for the unravelling beauty of its Furna do Enxofre - rare volcanological phenomenon, geologically unique in all the world.

Graciosa has a very rich ecosystem and has been considered since 2007 as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
